Cinematic works based on novels or short stories rarely disappoint, in principle, because they manage to exploit the main aspects of the story they are inspired by, such as the plot, and concentrate on improving those elements that may be considered weak. That is why, over the years, there have been thousands of movies and series that are adaptations of literary works.
On this occasion, we are going to talk about the Turkish soap opera Karadaglar, a free adaptation of the famous and historical novel “The Brothers Karamazov”, by the Russian writer Fyodor Dostoyevsky. We invite you to stay and read everything you should know about this Turkish TV drama.
Plot of the Turkish TV series Karadaglar
Lieutenant Karadaglar, better known simply as Karadaglar, is a novel whose story sets us in the 1930s, when Turkey was suffering the effects of the Great Depression.
It is in this context that the series shows us the strained relations of the landowner Halit Karadağ with his two sons, as well as the relationship between the two brothers.
Set in the fictional village of Payidar, the soap opera also exposes the tensions between the rich landowners and the poor villagers of the area.
Thus unfolds this Turkish drama which, despite being little known, is worth watching because it is of high quality.
As can be seen in the plot, the series is not a faithful adaptation of the novel, but as we said, it is a free adaptation, that is, only the main idea of Dostoyevsky’s work was taken to translate it into the soap opera.
At first glance, the series differs from the book in the context in which it develops, since the story of the book takes place in an environment that has nothing to do with the Great Depression.
