Turkish television tends to make adaptations of successful Western series. One example is “Doctor Miracle“, which is an adaptation of “Good doctor”.
But, this time we come to talk about the soap opera Our Story, also known as Family Love or in its original language as Bizim Hikaye. This TV soap opera is an adaptation of the British series Shameless, a BAFTA award-winning production.
Plot of the Turkish series Our Story
The story of this series centers on Filiz, who is a beautiful, struggling and self-sacrificing young woman. Filiz makes the decision to drop out of school in order to take care of her family: she has five siblings and an alcoholic father who does not contribute anything to the household, but on the contrary, is a hard burden on his children.
Rahmet and Hikmet, two of Filiz’s brothers, do attend school, but at the same time they work to help with the expenses. Meanwhile, Ismet, Fikret and Kiraz, being the youngest in the household, do not work, but they do attend school, while the youngest, Ismet, is cared for by his two brothers.
Despite the fact that the young people live in a very difficult economic situation, and also carry the psychological burden of having been abandoned by their mother, and cope with his father who is devoted to alcohol; all try to encourage each other to navigate in adversity, and compensate each other, that love they did not receive from their parents.
Due to the family’s economic situation, Filiz has decided to only work and take care of his siblings, forgetting to enjoy his youth. However, he soon meets a handsome young man named Baris, who enjoys a better economic position. He will fall completely in love with Filiz, so he will be willing to ease her burden and show her that there is room for love in every life.
