Most Turkish novels tell us stories that, while fantastic and charming, are still fiction; stories based on real events seem to be more from Western cinema and television.
However, this does not mean that there are no Turkish soap operas that tell true stories. Such is the case with the novel at hand, Cranberry Sorbet, also known as Kizilcik Şerbeti.

The protagonist of the story is Kivilcim, who is a cultured, practical and modern woman who, despite having divorced her husband, had the courage and strength to raise her two daughters, whom she instructed under the values she believed in.
Kivilcim earns her living by working as a high school teacher in Istanbul, while Çimen, her youngest daughter, is a teenager in high school, and Doga, her eldest daughter, is a dental student.
However, Kivilcim’s quiet life will be shaken when one day Doga tells him that she is pregnant and that she is going to marry her boyfriend, which is also the reason why she will drop out of university.
And as if it wasn’t disappointing enough for Kivilcim to see his daughter drop out of school, his disappointment will be even greater when he meets his son-in-law’s family, which is strict and conservative.
Kivilcim, who has been a liberal woman all her life, believes that, under these rules, it is impossible for her daughter to be happy. However, Doga is convinced that love is capable of overcoming all obstacles.
Thus, this Turkish TV series unfolds in which the confrontation between a modern family and a conservative one is narrated.
It is worth mentioning that this drama has not left anyone indifferent, in fact, it has generated controversy to such an extent that the Supreme Council of Radio and Television of Turkey censored it, accusing it of damaging good manners.
