Plot of the Turkish TV series The Gift
The story of this peculiar Turkish series revolves around Atiye, who is a young painter leading a perfect and enviable life in the city of Istanbul. She has a loving relationship with a wealthy boyfriend and is about to open the first exhibition of her works, however, her whole life will change completely after a discovery in the Göbekli Tepe.
Göbekli Tepe is the oldest temple in the world. One day, archaeologist Erhan discovers a strange symbol that shows the existence of a unique mystical relationship between the temple and the young woman.
This will prompt Atiye to change her life and embark on a quest to find the secrets of her past, which are hidden in the ruins of the temple. As the mystery unfolds, the events that the young woman must deal with make her question the past and the future, where everything wanders between the real and the spiritual.

The gift and a plagiarism lawsuit
The gift series has been sued for plagiarism since 2020. Turkish novelist Buket Uzuner said that, all the characters in her novel “The Adventures of Defne Kaman” were totally copied in the series. She claims that she was for 8 months in negotiations with a Netflix producer to adapt the character of Defne Kaman, but the negotiations failed.
The writer demanded that the series be cancelled and also financial compensation for the plagiarism.
