Plot of the Turkish drama Fatmagül
The plot of the Turkish series Fatmagül revolves around a young peasant girl named Fatmagül, who lives in a coastal village near the city of Izmir. There she lives with her brother Rahmi, who is engaged to Mustafa, a young fisherman who works day and night to build the house where they will live when they get married.
Nearby lives Karim, a blacksmith who works in partnership with his master, and who was raised by the village healer, as he is motherless and was abandoned by his father.
One day, the marriage took place between Selim, the son of a businessman and Meltem Alagöz, the daughter of a businessman and politician. The wedding is attended by all kinds of people, including Fatmagül and Karim, who meet there.
Karim falls in love with her, but Fatmagül rejects him. However, one night, under the influence of drugs and alcohol, Fatmagül is raped by three men. Karim was not involved in this act, however, the Yaşaran’s decide to force Karim to take responsibility for the rape and to marry Fatmagül so as not to tarnish the family name.
After the marriage, Karim and Fatmagül go to live in Istanbul. However, Fatmagül despises her husband believing that he raped her. On the other side is Mustafa, who vows to take revenge for the love he lost.
Thus unfolds this complex love drama, which far from being a simple soap opera, is a social critique.
